What is Workers' Compensation?

Workers' Compensation provides lost wages and medical benefits to an employee who has an injury as the result of a work related accident, or acquires an occupational disease. Workers' compensation is designed to provide quick, predictable benefits to workers, or their dependents, in the event of a worker related accidental injury or death.

It is intended to benefit the employer as well as the employee. The employee receives immediate benefits in exchange for forfeiting the common law right to sue the employer. The employer benefits by receiving immunity from court actions against them by accepting liability that is limited in scope. The question of negligence or fault, with some exceptions, is usually not at issue.
