I have been in the safety field for over 50 years. My father was a safety coordinator when I was about 6, he taught me all about the business when he was practicing his presentations, or first aid procedures or watching the safety films! Seriously, I was involved in safety during my career as a miner in mine rescue and as a crew supervisor, and part of the safety committee in the lumber industry. I eventually started professionally in this field in 1991 when the NM Workers’ Compensation Administration opened field offices in NM. I was hired as a Safety Consultant in the Las Vegas office, then transferred to the main office in Albuquerque. After 5 years, I transferred to the NM Department of Transportation in Santa Fe when they started the loss control bureau as a Loss Control Specialist, worked there for 5 years. From there, I took 2 consecutive positions in road construction as the Safety Manager on a large scale road construction job for about 3 ½ years. I took this position at NM Mutual in 2002, servicing the NE quadrant of the state for about 7 years, then as a statewide large account specialist for the past 3 years. Many of the large accounts I have serviced are oil and gas operators, trucking and construction companies. My specialty is transportation, construction and oil & gas.
I enjoy spending time with the grandchildren and family, church activities, and on the farm. I am a native New Mexican, growing up in Las Vegas. I am a bilingual speaker – English and Spanish.

I began working for New Mexico Mutual in 1993, since then I have held three positions. My first position was in Loss Prevention, then onto Customer Service and held the title of Marketing Assistant for a few years. When the job in Loss Prevention became available, I was ready for a change and transferred back to Loss Prevention.
I am a native New Mexican living on the Acoma reservation which makes for a long morning and evening commute. My culture is very important to me, including my native language (Keresan) which I speak fluently. I began my insurance career with USF&G in 1988. When USF&G closed the Albuquerque office, I worked for a few local independent agencies. Of these 23 years in the insurance industry, I have spent the majority of my time working in the loss prevention field and over time have learned many interesting things from our safety consultants.
